This role will primarily work on Commercial contracts across Media & Broadcast, Utilities and Technology with particular attention on technology and innovation.  This extremely varied position will also be involved in corporate matters and governance. Supporting the Chief Legal Officer and Commercial Lawyers, this role will be working across Media & Broadcast, Utilities and Procurement.

The role  

• Legal team contact and business partner for Corporate and Commercial stakeholders including Media & Broadcast, Smart Utilities Networks and Procurement. This includes providing legal advice and support on product development, commercial contracts and customer and supplier relationships. 

• Customer relationship support includes advising on all stages of the customer journey from bid to contract to delivery.

• Analysis of risk based on commercial context and provision of timely, pragmatic and commercial legal advice.

• Establish strong and effective working relationships both internally and externally. The role includes liaising and collaborating with colleagues from across all areas of the business including Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Risk, Technology, Information Security & Operations. 

• Provide regulatory advice and support to the business and work with the Regulatory team in responding to consultations as needed.

• Contribute to precedent and process improvement, training, knowhow and development initiatives within the business.

• Manage external lawyers on a variety of matters including disputes/litigation.

• Support other members of the Legal team as needed including on corporate matters and governance work.

The person 

•Qualified to practise as a lawyer in England and Wales

• Commercial contract experience. Experience in technology, telecommunications and/or procurement/supply chain contracting (including SaaS or PaaS contracting) will be a significant advantage.

•Strong communication, legal drafting and negotiating skills. 

• Understanding of intellectual property rights and ability to apply this to development of new technologies.

• Experience in providing business and solution focused advice taking into account commercial context.

• An understanding of and curiosity about new technologies. 
•Enthusiasm for innovation.

•Understanding of data protection law. 

•Cross jurisdictional experience.
