About the role

In your role as Cyber Security Team Leader you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.

​This role will provide a great opportunity to provide technical leadership for BAU & Cyber Security project activities for the USS Cyber Security operations, as well as having input into the wider IT project portfolio.

The primary focus of the role will be to lead a team of Cyber Security Engineers and Analysts through day-to-day activities; ensuring that priorities are set and that USS systems remain secure while taking ownership regarding the delivery of technical IT projects as a lead engineer.

​The Cyber Security Team Leader will play an integral part in ensuring that all USS systems are Securely implemented and maintained.

​For this role, you will have a strong awareness of the cyber security threat landscape, SIEM tools, firewalls and boundary controls coupled with excellent troubleshooting and investigating skills.

​Additionally, you will have a solid understanding of threat analysis and cyber threat intelligence, the ability to look at complex threats and be confident regarding forensic analysis and surrounding techniques.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the IT you will be responsible for:

  • Manage both BAU and project workloads of the team, making operational technical decisions daily
  • Work to deadlines defined by the USS project teams and Technology Services management team
  • Ensure compliance across Platform, Application, and Operating System by collaborating with other technology services departments
  • Lead from a security standpoint during priority incidents and manage technical escalations to 3rd parties
  • Provide security metrics, reports, and maintain documentation
  • Work closely with Technology Services Architects to design and deliver new technologies
  • Support, maintain, develop, and govern all security platforms including SIEM, NAC, Vulnerability Management etc
  • Respond to security incidents, alerts, and exceptions according to established procedures
  • Encourage team development, create new procedure documentation, and provide quality control for the team's work

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Leadership and/or mentoring Experience in an IT technical function
  • Strong experience and knowledge of using Security Information, Vulnerability Management and Event Management tools
  • Strong experience and knowledge of implementing and supporting Network Access Control
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools
  • Strong understanding of the cyber threat landscape
  • Experience conducting analysis/investigation and containment of potential data breaches or cyber security incidents
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing and supporting Next-Gen Firewalls
  • Ability to work independently
  • Writing and delivering reports as identified
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
