We are searching for an experienced and talented Head of Data Engineering for a critical role working for a successful and expanding business, a company that is a market leader in its field, producing award-winning software solutions and services for a diverse portfolio of customers.

The role is offered on a permanent and remote basis with very occasional office visits.

In this role you will be responsible for the following: -

• Creating and managing a complex service model that delivers data timely and accurately to a wide variety of stakeholders and downstream consuming applications and services.
• Defining and managing the cost model for the Data Platform and the staff who work on the platform.
• Working hand-in-hand with Data Operations and Data Insight teams to build key data pipelines and platform processes, deploying models and implementing orchestrations.
• Implementing governance models for data access, data retention and disaster/recovery, based on stakeholder and client requirements.
• Maintaining and improving the current data model, architecture and data platform ensuring its compliance latest standards across the group of companies.

About You

To be a success in this exciting and critical position you will have a successful track record of working as a Head of Data Engineering/Data Engineering Director or Data Leader (or a similar senior data role).

You will have experience in the following key areas: -

• Proven experience of leading highly skilled and motivated Data Engineers and Data/AI Architects.
• Experience of the build of Data Integration and Analysis Systems (DIAS) in an industrial/enterprise environment.
• Deep knowledge of the Microsoft Azure technology stack as it relates to Data and Insight (Azure SQL VMs, SQL Managed Instances, Azure DB, Data Lakes, Azure Synapse and Power BI, Azure Data Factory).
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language (i.e. SQL, and PySpark/Python).
• Proficiency of designing and building API and API Consumption.
• Familiarity with data visualisations tools such as PowerBI.
• Proficiency in ETL/ELT tooling.
• Experience with deploying infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to lead on the appraisal of architectures as they relate to requirements for Data and Insight solutions, including, Cloud, Hybrid-Cloud and On-Premise based solutions and specific components and services within them.
• Proven experience of architecting and deploying complex and scalable data pipelines, connecting diverse data sources to consolidated repositories.
• Extensive experience and expertise of data modelling approaches.
• Experience of designing and overseeing service management models as they relate to managed instances of the data platform and data-as-a-service solutions.
• Experience of working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
• Experience of architecting pipelines to support Machine Learning workloads.
• Experience of maintaining elevated levels of operational delivery. Being accountable and responsible to support the operational delivery of data for a wide range of use cases. Adhering to SLA's and Operational Level Agreements.
• Inspiring the data teams to provide the highest level of quality to customers.
