AECOM are currently looking to recruit a Senior GIS Consultant/Analyst to join our Geospatial Team within the Digital Environment Practice Area. This is a full-time, permanent role within a team of 40 geospatial and data specialists located in multiple offices across the UK and Ireland. Reporting to the Geospatial Lead, the role will provide GIS delivery on a range of projects to internal and external clients, working as part of a multi-disciplinary project delivery team on projects ranging in scale and complexity.

As a Senior GIS Consultant/Analyst within the Geospatial Team, the successful candidate will combine their existing experience and skill set with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and database management to support a wide range of exciting and diverse projects in the UK and Internationally. Projects will range in scale and complexity and include locally and nationally significant projects in sectors such as Power/Renewables, Infrastructure, and Transport. Through the use of the Esri technology stack (mobile, desktop and web) and your passion for automating and innovation, using ETL tools like FME, the successful candidate will be sourcing, managing, and creating content and aiding project teams and clients in visualising and analysing spatial information to aid decision making and reporting.

You will be working with senior members of the team who will provide GIS leadership and mentorship and allow you to continually develop and diversify your skills and experience. On projects, you will have the chance to enhance existing workflows, improve efficiency in delivery and be part of a centre of technical excellence in GIS. Through engagement and developing strong relationships with internal Project Managers and technical leads, you will utilise your consultancy skills to promote Geospatial technology to clients and stakeholders.

Examples of AECOM projects where this skill base has been applied include.

  • Supporting a national transportation client in designing and creating an infrastructure land management system by using FME to generate appropriate land parcels based upon a range of client criteria.
  • Developing an automated Quality Assurance system for a renewables client using FME and ArcGIS Online to streamline the submission of contractor materials to the client’s enterprise geodatabase.
  • Using Python to implement an automated reporting tool for the Caledonian Water Alliance, allowing project managers to be kept informed of field survey progress.

Job Duties

  • Support the GIS element of projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Collaboratively working closely with project GIS Leads, data analysis and other stakeholders to support a diverse project team of subject matter experts to view, interrogate, analyse, and present spatial information.
  • Utilise scripts and FME workbenches to enhance automation, customise workflows, and address unique data transformation requirements.
  • Spatial and non-spatial data handling, creating, and managing content in enterprise and file geodatabases, using good data management principles.
  • Carry out geoprocessing/analysis tasks – using coding skills in ArcPy, Python and/or Arcade to efficiently deliver and customise deliverables.
  • Support webGIS (ArcGIS Online) creation and maintenance to aid project team access to spatial information.
  • Provide consultancy to internal and external clients to understand their needs and provide solutions.
  • Working to programme and budget whilst maintaining the quality of delivery.
  • Work within set GIS standards and best practice.
  • Ensure quality assurance of all deliverables and follow internal and client-mandated Technical Quality Review processes.
