The Company

Major IT & Digital have partnered with a leading retail and distribution business in central Birmingham.  The company is a well-established business achieving a UK turnover of £260m in 2023 with continued growth and expansion plans for this year.

My client has immediate requirements for a Junior Software Developer to join a small development team to help support and assist with a number of web based projects including a SQL based data migration project planned this year.

Due to the nature of work and custom built systems, this role does require someone to be on-site 5 days per week.  My client does offer some flexibility on the working arrangements for the right person.

The Candidate

As a Junior Developer you will contribute to the design and delivery of key projects, software implementations, writing good quality code and ability to work to deadlines.

You will report directly into the Chief Technology Officer and assist with all functions of software coding and design.  The primary focus will be to learn the codebase, gather user data and respond to requests from senior developers.

To ensure success as a Junior Developer, you should have good working knowledge of programming languages at a basic level, ideally PHP 7 and above, or Next.JS.  You will have an ability to learn new technology quickly and to an exceptional standard.

The Role

  • Basic programming experience with an ability to write code
  • Some understanding of software languages – JavaScript, Next.JS and PHP
  • Assist with all aspects of software design, coding and bug fixes
  • Ability to learn the codebase and continue to improve your coding skills
  • Respond to requests from the software development team
  • Knowledge of SQL databases and operating systems
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly
  • Ability to follow instructions, and work within a challenging  and team focussed environment
