Advances in information technology and digital communications are revolutionising the way we live and work, every aspect of our daily life depends on technology. However, with such prolific use of technology comes significant risk and potential threats through the loss or compromise of our information, which would impact significantly on the success of our business, and therefore to military capability and defence. This risk must become a conscious part of our daily working practices, so we can minimise it by ensuring we adopt appropriate behaviour to safeguard our data and our information and that of our suppliers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic IT developer with great technical skills and the desire to produce quality software within a forward-thinking Information Management & Information Technology (IM&IT) function at DE&S, based at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Headquarters in Abbey Wood, Bristol.
An IT Developer is a rewarding role within the Development Operation (Dev Ops) team (part of application services) and provides an opportunity to contribute to the success of existing as well as future services provided by DE&S.
You will be part of a scrum team responsible for the analysis, design, and development of new and existing software solutions within the SharePoint framework. Your knowledge or experience with react skills, java script, C++/ .Net development will be of great benefit. An IT Developer is critical to support the ongoing operations for DE&S. They will function as an advocate for quality and champion behavior driven development.
Please note the salary band for this role is £46,200 – £50,000, however for any interviewee who performs exceptionally at interview and can demonstrate that they exceed the capability requirements of the role, then a salary up to £60,000 may be negotiated. This will be based on evidence of interview performance.
Please note some attendance to the stated site may be required for this position.
Responsibilities for IT Developer (AET)
In this role, you will be entrusted with:
- Identifying and proposing effective ways to implement components and features for applications in development to meet user requirements
- Designing, creating, evaluating, and documenting new and amended software components from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed development and security standards and processes
- Actively participating in defect resolution, maintain applications and systems to improve the quality of the build and supports onward learning
- Applying source code management and maintain code repository, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a quality well-engineered result
- Promoting Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), digital aspiration and suggest improvement ideas. Consistently unit test code changes and participate in peer review of code
- Supporting environment management and provide Data set for Testing. Agile Software Development, promote the methodology, iterative build, and testing
- Application of technical knowledge and experience to design and create workable prototypes, both programs and physical outputs
- Understanding parameters, restrictions and synergies and applying this knowledge within solution designs
- Actively participating in the Application and Development Community
- Recruiting, training, and developing Junior and Associate Developers to build capability within the Function
What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience of role/s in a Development Team environment
- Knowledge and experience of Agile and DevOps practices.
- Working within the full lifecycle of software delivery
- Front end web development skills
- SharePoint Framework
It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
- React, Cascading Style Sheets
- Use of REST to call SP Lists
- TypeScript
- PowerApps
- SQL
- Experience of C# .Net development
- Experience of JavaScript development
