Applications are invited for two fixed-term posts of Software Analyst/Developer to join the Imardis support team, based in the Centre for Applied Marine Sciences within the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University. We will be appointing one at grade 7 and the other at either grade 7 or grade 8.
As Software Analyst/Developer the successful candidate will work with a team of experienced developers responsible for maintaining and improving the existing data infrastructure, as well as developing new backend systems and services. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of Java and the Springboot framework and will have a good understanding of RESTful API programming and SQL database queries.
This exciting role offers the opportunity to have a tangible impact on the cutting-edge research being performed at the School of Ocean Sciences and Bangor University. It would suit an IT professional with excellent programming skills, a passion for learning new technologies, and who wants to expand their portfolio to include scientific computing in support of society’s path to net zero.
The grade 7 job is part-funded by the SEEC (Smart Efficient Energy Centre) programme and by the Morlais project, and the grade 7/8 job is wholly funded by the Morlais project. The SEEC and Morlais projects are both funded through the European Regional Development Fund, administered by the Welsh Government. EU Funds: Investing in Wales.
The role is available at either grade 7 or grade 8, to be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Grade 7 candidates should be educated to degree standard in a Computer Science
related subject or have significant similar and relevant experience including previous experience in Java development. Additionally, to be appointed at grade 8 candidates will EITHER possess a Postgraduate degree in a Computing Science related subject OR hold a relevant professional accreditation OR possess equivalent significant experience. This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

The post is available initially until 31st December 2023, with the possibility of extension dependent on further funding.
