Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has a fantastic opportunity available for a Data Developer to join our People Services Project. You will join us on a full-time, fixed-term contract lasting 24 months. in return, you will receive a competitive salary starting at £41,591 per annum.

About the role:

As our Data Developer, you’ll provide detailed technical subject matter expertise on data development, data analysis, and data architecture for the People Systems Services Project, within the Change & Improvement programme for the organisation. Additionally, you'll provide continuity of approach to data across the service’s development activities.

What you’ll do as our Data Developer:

  • Joining up the implementation of the data architecture for the service and People Services systems project
  • Providing subject matter expertise on data development to the development team and People Services systems project
  • Engaging with senior stakeholders to ensure that the data architecture being developed is reflective of both the service direction and capabilities
  • Ensuring that data migrations are appropriately managed and implemented to safeguard the service’s data and conform to retention and other business requirements
  • Ensuring that the service can meet its obligations for good Data & Information lifecycle management 
  • Appropriately documenting data structures to allow a micro-services approach to data exchange, with APIs between system modules.
  • Managing function interactions with suppliers to ensure that designs deliver the capabilities the organisation requires, do not adversely affect support agreements, and are achievable within organisational timeframes.
  • Balancing the data architecture requirement with the capabilities of mid- and front-tier development processes to achieve pragmatic approaches to implement organisational requirements.
  • Defining, developing, and owning a comprehensive set of design patterns for data processes to be used for all Developments within DSFRS

What we’re looking for in our Data Developer:

  • Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an Agile methodology
  • Working knowledge of Project Management best practices
  • Working knowledge of ICT best practice methodologies in Service Delivery
  • Demonstrable knowledge of front-tier and mid-tier development languages
  • Experience of working effectively at a practitioner level within a software development function
  • Experience in design and development within enterprise Data Architecture
  • Experience in the design and development of database solutions
  • Experience of Data Analysis techniques and methodologies
  • Experience of working in a data-centric software development environment
